Rain and snow can have a negative effect on satellite signal reception making the digital picture freeze, pixel or go out altogether. This loss of signal is commonly referred to as “rain fade” or signal attenuation. Satellite television reception is affected by two factors:
1. Water in the atmosphere
2. Water on the dish and LNB or radome
To prevent loss of picture due to attenuation, satellite service providers transmit signals down with extra power in areas where it rains frequently. This extra power is called the rain fade margin. With home satellite dishes, the loss of signal strength due to rain is usually not more than the rain fade margin, so you can still be watching TV when it rains. You lose picture when the signal loss exceeds the rain fade margin. This occurs when there is enough water in the atmosphere to completely block the signal, or more likely when the signal loss caused by the combination of water in the atmosphere and water on the dish & LNB or dome exceed the rain fade margin.
How does Dome Magic prevent rain fade?
Dome Magic eliminates the negative effects of rain and dew on the dome. While it does not prevent the reduction in signal due to excessive water in the atmosphere, it does prevent water on the dome from causing additional signal loss. It does this by minimizing the contact area of the water droplet on the dome. In other words, it makes the bottom of the water droplet more round than flat. In fact, water balls rolling off a dome treated with dome magic are almost perfectly round and have the appearance of mercury.
How long will it last?
When applied as directed, one application of Dome Magic can last up to 12 months. Dome Magic applied to the dome will stay on until removed by friction. Normal rainfall alone is not enough to wash Dome Magic off the dome in a one year period. However, washing or pressure spraying the dome will remove the protective layer and require a new application.
How many applications per can?
Each 5 oz. of Dome Magic will provide enough material to treat any 3 King-Dome Systems.
How is this different than other stuff I’ve tried?
There is nothing available that works nearly as well and/or does not need to be reapplied after each rain occurrence. Nothing!!!
